Understanding Prior Authorizations

Health Insurance Companies delay administration of medication by requiring  a

Prior Authorizations for Medications.

How does the Prior Authorization Process Work?

1. The following  pharmacies notify me by using an online service called CoverMyMeds.Com. Drug Mart, Acme, Giant Eagle, Meijer, and Costco provide an electronic prior authorization through CoverMyMeds, while the other pharmacies fax a prior authorization request to the office. Faxed requests take additional time for approval.

2. We do not call insurance companies or pharmacies.  As an Electronic Practice we do not have administrative staff to make calls or the ability to remain on hold for extended periods of times.

3. Other options to avoid a Prior Authorization: You can go to the website of your insurance company, download a Prescription Prior Authorization Form (PDF File), complete the sections requiring your person information, then upload it to your Patient Portal or drop off to the office.
